The Research Institute for Environmental and Occupational Health (Irset-Inserm UMR 1085) is located at Rennes, the capital city of Brittany. Rennes boasts two universities (Rennes 1 and Rennes 2), and EHESP – School of Public Health. The city is reknown for its scientific and cultural vigor. High-speed trains and Rennes’ international airport put Paris, London and other major European centers at its reach within 2-3 hours.

Irset’s research groups cover diverse and complementary fields such as molecular and genome biology, bioinformatics, analytical chemistry, toxicology and epidemiology that all have a common aim: gain insight into basic molecular processes related to pathologies that manifest themselves in the context of environmental challenges.

Irset is a joint research unit of the French Institute of Medical Research (Inserm), the University of Rennes 1, and the EHESP-School of Public Health, in association with the University of Angers, the University of the Antilles, the National Center of Scientific Research (CNRS), and the Rennes, Angers and Pointe-à-Pitre University Hospitals. Founded in 2009, Irset received the recognition of Inserm in 2012 and was evaluated by HCERES in 2016.

In 2015, a new research building has been built on the EHESP Campus, that will, in the end, host not less that 270 permanent and temporary staff members.
